Why have some of my threads been "closed"?

I was looking through one of my threads to post more pictures, but it was "CLOSED".  So I checked my other thread topics and found that four of my threads have been closed and can't have pictures or comments added.  Why?  Did I do something wrong?

I miss typed above.  FORTY, not four, but forty, of my threads have been "CLOSED".  Why?
  • I was wondering the same?
  • Don't think Paul would do it.

Perry, I know envy is a sin but in this instance I'll admit to it. Your work is never short of miraculous and I envy your ability!

    Perry,

    How old are they?

I posted awhile back that any threads over 5 years old would automatically be closed now - point me at one of yours and I'll take a look for you.

We had a number of instances where people were posting into threads re cars for sale etc. that were 6 or 7 years old and others where people were asking for spare parts.

Your threads would never be closed my friend unless by accident , I can tweak the auto closure routine to ignore your postings for closure!

I can see your first one "Closed" one has a last posting from 2018 and that is the Railton one. I have reopened that one for you - any others?

I was wrong - there was this one as well "Lets see some unique intake and exhaust set ups" - I have no idea why that was closed so will need to look at the routine.

If you spot any more let me know and I'll reopen them

My fault - I can't take away properly so I'd closed discussions up to 2019 when it should have been 2017 ....

    All reopened now

    Hi Paul, :)
I looked at "my discussions", of which I have started about 60 threads.  38 threads are still closed.  The first page of my discussions is open, the other two pages are all closed discussions.  I understand your reasoning for the closure, but I think the blanket closure of all threads that old should be reconsidered.  By all means, the classifieds should have a time limit.  Perhaps several of my posts as well.  But the idea of the How-To-Skills, Mechanical and Otherwise, was in my understanding suposed to be a catagory where people could learn how to make a repair and ask questions as to how to make said repair for their own vehicle.  Or maybe just see how it was done.  So if, for example someone was considering buying a step down but it had rocker panel rust?  That person could do a search on the How-To catagory, see what all is involved, maybe ask some questions.  Then be able to make an informed decision as to whether or not they want to buy the car they are looking at.
Same idea with the exhaust/intake thread.  People considering making their own intake or exhaust might want to research and see what it takes to complete a job like that. If a thread like that is closed then another will be started.  You end up with several threads on the same topic and all of the information spread out rather than being in one place.
Or how to wire an edge on a '30's fender, or how to add a side mount spare tire, or many other topics talked about in those threads.  Most of these tasks can be fairly complex if you have never done such a thing before.  If those threads are closed, the person cannot ask any questions, or add/correct information that has already been posted, helping the next guy down the line who is reading the thread years from now.

In my opinion, any tech related posts should never be closed. These are posted to help us all, and never get too old. I refer back and look to them on a regular basis.

Point noted and taken Kerry , I do what I need to keep this forum running however a post being closed doesn't mean to say you can't look at it.

Enough has been said about this , I explained why they had been closed - they have now been re-opened and this one is being closed.
