What is the correct color and type of paint that should be used to paint the engine in my 1946 Commodore 8?

I realize these engines were painted silver--but there is silver and then there is silver. I only want to do this once and I have a hunch it isn't as simple as it looks.

Also, what are the paint colors for the plastic emblem on the trunk of this car. The one on it now is painted in black with a silver background but I have seen a brochure on E-Bay that showed a red 1946 or '47 convertible and the colors of this emblem were black and a gold background???

Were Commodore's rear emblem colors different than the Super 6's?

Thanks,

Jim, I recommend Dupli-Color's 500 degree engine paint (spray cans) , in Aluminum color (DE 1615). It's good quality paint with good spray nozzles, and an excellent match to the original. Later touch-ups don't show, and it's not overly "chromey." Don't put it on too heavily, as you want the grainy texture of the cast iton to show.

Your motor looks great, but where did you get the stand?

Park--I may order the paint over the Internet--how many cans do you think it will take for engine and transmission?

    Thanks,

  • Any oil based aluminum paint will work fine, Does not have to be engine paint. Engine does not get over 200 degrees and any paint handles that easily. Been doing this for 50 years.
