53 hudson radio??

Trying to figure out if the 53 hudson hornet radio had round buttons or square like in 54. The car currently had a square button radio and I see an old schematic for 53 radios that shows them as square also, but looking at some cars on the web they are round. They may of had both and charged later in the year. Does anyone know?

    That was in 1964, so it was probably the original radio for that car.

    1953's were square button. If 53 Hudson had round buttons, was from dealer installation. Check your owner manual for the Radio instructions,will see pics and descriptions.

    Russ, If your radio has the on/ off button on the set of rectangular buttons you have a 53-54 radio. If it has the on/off control on the knob, you have an earlier radio. There may have been some units that either left the factory with leftover inventory or dealer installed but most 53-54 cars had the rectangular button.

    Here are three Jets that all have different radios! The last picture must be an aftermarket one?

    Yes Sara, the last picgture is deffinately an aftermarket radio installation. The middle radio is a 1948 thru 1950 model, and someone would have had to modify the opening in the instrument panel to accept this radio. As I recall, the very early cars from the factory had the "leftover" style radio from 1951 & 1952, even when the cars came factory equiped with radio. The rectangular button radio with the on-off switch on the left hand blutton was made available along about late December 1952 or early January 1953.
