Hudsonites, I have removed the wiper pulley assembly from both sides. I want to have the chrome pieces, where the wiper blades attache, rechromed. Mine are badly pitted. How do you remove the cables from the assembly? It appears that you have to have the bushing in the pulley assembly pushed out. Is that correct?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Doug, First of all, to remove the cable and pulley assembly you must pop out the two rivets below the main pulley on the wiper head. These are attached to a pulley shield that keeps the cable on track . Next, after the removal of the two rivets, take a slender punch and drive the wiper head pulley shaft from its position. .Face the wiper head down and strike from behind forcing the shaft out through the front of the wiper head. Remove the bronze bushing on the back of the wiper head.At this point the wiper cables and pulley are loose and you can then take your wiper heads to get rechromed. Don't forget to remove the washer screws at the base of the wiper head. If your car has a washer system already installed, then you will need to remove the squirter screws instead of the washer plug screws. Lastly, when sending the wiper heads off to get plated remember to remove the rubber gasket from the bottom of each wiper head. Good luck.
