I stumbled across this while looking for a motor for my 47 pickup.

Will a built 308 really make 1000 hp?



Has anyone dealt with uncommon engineering before? I don't intend to race my truck, but a good strong, well-built and reliable motor is a requirement.

    I don't think the question is "will a 308 make 1000 hp?", but rather "how many seconds before it grenades?"

    Steve F. (Uncommon Eng.) is an interesting guy! Worked for years at the Indy 500 race.

    There are many reputatble Hudson engine builders. Some are regulars on this forum and some are not.

    For the record, Rick is an avid old car guy who has purchased a Hudson pickup and would like to restore the trucks power to Hudson. At present he is exploring a Hornet power option.

    There a number of you who are owners of Hudson Pickups powered by a Hornet... your input along with that of the engine builders will help Rick with his decision processes.

    Now there are TWO HET Nuts in the HOT.

    Rick if you were going to talk to anyone about runnning a hot Hornet engine in a truck talk to Gus and or Dan Souza. They've built an eye poppin one.

    Well, as a 47 Hudson PU driver with the original 212, why not just put one of those in there? Lots of power, lots of fun, and the people at the shows like to see the original engine running.



    That way, you won't overpower the tranny, the rear end, the frame or the brakes. or yourself. If you repower, you'd better start thinking about big stepdown drums or aftermarket disks to get er stopped.



    Having said that, I'm putting a 254 Hudson 8 in my 46 PU 'cause the original was blown, due to the 7.25 Traveler head that was there I believe. And yes, I put the big stepdown brakes up front.





    Also, this suspension is better than the 30s straight axles, but still primitive by today's standards. Don't call me to dig ya out of the toolie bushes.

    I know Doug W and farkley pal around together;) Doug said the 8x ran well for the 1.5 seconds it stayed together.

    WTH, I think S.Fartley came here 1 time. I asked about the 8X engine and he said he was still working on it. I think that translates into"I'm repairing the inspection hole in the side of the block??" Don't know for sure. Also,I think just last year Randy Maas challenged Steve F. to "Meet at the tree" here in Indy and Steve was a no show. I think a Hudson engine making a 1000 HP. means that it is attached to a JATO rocket and is taking you back to outer space- 1000 hp = BANG - BOOM!!! :eek::rolleyes::D
