terreplane article
I just finished reading my latest Auto Restorer issue and it contains an illustrated article on the '36 Terreplane with info on restoration, history, specs. etc. If anyone wants the issue just provide your mailing address and I'll put it in the mail. First come first serve.

THAT WOULD BE A GOOD ONE TO scan just the 36 "T" article and put on someones regular site or in the club store. BUD0 -
The article is on my 36T and I have learned that Auto Restorer Magazine is a subscription only publication. I am only able to get like 2 extra copies mailed to me by the editor. I met Dan Burger, the author of the article, at, Cruise the Coast 101, in Del Mar, CA last September. He was really interested in the Terraplane and in Hudsons. He called around Christmas and asked if he could do the article. He interviewed me and had a photograper take some great pictures of the car (I will post one.) He also interviewed Buzz Stahl, who guided my engine rebuild and Guy Spring, who installed the side-mount pocket for the spare. It is a nice article. If someone has a way of scanning the article for others to enjoy - go for it!!0

What month was the acticle in? I'd like to call them to see if they sell back issue.0
-
I suspected that it was your car Richard. I'll tell you what, since I'm such a nice guy and it sounds like you would like an extra copy, when I'm done with it, I'll sell it to you! HA.
How's the ankle coming?0 -
It turns out that Auto Restorer Magazine prints only enough issues for their subscribers, plus maybe 10 more. Any back issues are sent electronically. They no longer hold back issues. FYI it is the May 2009 issue and the '36T is one of two "featured restorations!" It is a nice article.
Thanks Scott, I think that I will just color copy several dozen for my fan club. They may be a hot item on Ebay!
Scott, I went from a wheel chair (6 weeks) to a walker (1 week) and am now on a cane. I actually drove for a couple of blocks yesterday. It will be awhile before I can drive the '36T but I should be back in action before too long. Thanks for asking!0 -
Here are two of the pictures shot for the Auto Restorer Magazine article. The back drop is the Escondido, CA City Hall. It is an award winning building constructed about 10 years ago.0

IF no one else is going to I would be glad to copy the article and save it and send your magazine back to you. I could then scan the article to email to anyone else who wanted one. Go to your msges for my address if you want me to do this. BUD0 -

Richard,
Do you have the spare tyre disc cover?
Very nice car you've got there, I'm looking forward to seeing the article once Bud has kindly scanned it for us. I reckon the '36 model is the best looking of the later Terraplanes, with the suicide doors, swept tail and I also very much like the 'Dali dash" dashboard style which is totally unique from any other car I have ever seen. It often is so that the first year of a new design is the purest, before changes are made for the sake of change.
My '36T is pretty original including the original worn interior, but people love its time-warp appearance and it has that distinct and pleasant old car smell too that you lose with new upholstery.0 -
I'd like a copy of the article when you get it all sorted out.
email is HETcramerlp@roadrunner.com without the HET
Here's mine, original and a little more ratty than yours, but it's on the road.0 -
Richard,
You need to get your Electric hand and Automatic clutch working and then you could drive the 36T around even with your bad leg!0 -
Terraplane 8, I need the spare tire disc cover. I got one from Bill Albright, but it wasn't for this car, so I returned it. As you know, all of the side-mount stuff is pretty year specific. I agree with you about the '36T being one of the best looking (at the risk of making other Terraplane owners unhappy.)
Scott, I still have to finish the restoration of the Electric Hand, fortunately mine never had the vacuum clutch. I am sure that keeping it working is quite a chore. There are quite a few other details that I still need to complete. In fact I originally asked the author of the article to contact me in a year when the car is actually finished.
I am mailing the article to Bud today, so it should be up electronically by Monday. There is one small error in the article which I will explain in a later post. There always is something! It relates to the side mounted spare tire.0 -
Uncle Josh, your 36T looks great! A lot better than mine when I started the resto. Mine was driveable, but when the steering wheel was turned, it decided which direction it would go and it belched out blue smoke when I drove it. I think that the valve guides were completely gone!! It drives very nicely now, especially with the 3:51 rear end gears!0

Richard, still haven't got mine on my 37 set up yet but I had one as a kid and if you drove one with the vac clutch you'd love it, and not near as complicated as the shift mechanism, just a vacume cylinder that you can activate electronically or manually. BUD0 -

Thanks
It's yours. I haven't access to a scanner and I wouldn't know how to post it. Maybe you can.0 -
I put my copy in the mail to Bud this AM, he has agreed to scan and post it, so everyone who want to access it will be able to. By the way Auto Restorer Magazine appears to be a useful publication for those of us who pursue this hobby. Their website is: "www.autorestorermagazine.com"0

Guys I don't think we can get away with a 3-4 page post on the forum, there's likely a limit to anything that long , but I can check on it . What I'm going to do for sure is copy it and send Richards magazine back to him. Then you will need to send me your email address and I can scan it to that. Got a good sized list allready .NOT GONNA SAVE UP THE ADDRESSES, when done they will be deleted . From there you will need a printer hooked to your computer to get a hard copy or you can save it to a folder. Don't have a printer see if you can get a buddy or neighbor to have it sent to them, we'll do what we can to get a copy to everyone who wants one. The pics I suggest you take them from this thread to get the best, you loose some quality any time you reproduce anything. BUD0 -
By the way, the pictures that I posted need to be credited to Dan DiPinto. He is the photographer that took the pictures for the article. If Bud makes a .pdf file out of the article everyone should be able to print it just fine. Thanks Bud!0

Please add me to your growing list. I'd like a copy of the article as well.0 -
Finally my May Auto Restorer showed up at the house!
I wonder if it "stopped somewhere along the way"! It usually arrives well before the first of the month.
Good article and GREAT car!!! You have every reason to be proud of your car, Richard. It is one beautiful Hudson!!!!

OK GUYS, I've got it scaned and sent Richard's magazine back to him. It's a real good write-up . Please be patient, am working on the best way to do this so nobody has to have the latest equipment or be a computer garu to get a decent hard copy in an 8x11 form and maybe, just maybe, get it some where that it can be accessed later on . That's great, Bud. Thanks, again.:)0

the terraplanes are every where. my latest issue of "Prewar Car Notes" has a terraplane article in it as well. regards, tom0

Not just Terraplanes, but '36 Terraplanes, that one belongs to Wayne Funk of Michigan. He had it at the National in Auburn, IN. It is nicely restored!0
-
The '36's have a lot of character. I like driving mine at night and adjusting the instrument lighting down so there's just a low yellow glow coming through the white instrument face which is kind of transparent. I also like how the speedo is large and each mph is clearly marked so you know whether you're doing 60mph or 61mph. That barrel dash design was of course just a one year wonder, yet 73 years on still looks pretty cool and definitely different.0

OK GUYS , I've sent it to all who asked. Decided not to post it here , but if the ADM wants it here I can send it to him to place where he thinks is proper . DITTO FOR LOCAL CHAPTERS-- CHECK YOUR EMAIL , If it's not there resend me your email address as something did not work right. I had one bounce---TIFXKING@VERIZON.NEt---did not go thru--And again, for the best full page pics of the car copy them from this thread. I was surprized how many non-Hudson guys there were . THANK YOU RICHARD FOR SHAREING THIS WITH ALL OF US
PS, I've got ONE of those horns with the triangle opening I'm not going to use---BUD0
