TAG # ON A WA-! for a 37 "T"

The WA-! was used on a lot of cars. Anyone know what tag numbers can be used on a 37 with a 212 engine ? OR any other carb that gives the correct amount of fuel/air ratio ? THANKS, BUD

Our club's guru on carburetors is Dave Kostansek, in Ohio. I think he could answer your question.

The 1937 Terraplane used a W-1 #348s carter carburetor. The bottom side of the base is stamped #272. Try to locate this number. You can try the 38 which is #397s and base #339 or 39 #437s base #339 or 438s base #383. Walt.
  • thanks for the numbers Walt, I had DAVE K. do a couple water pumps for me , good work. little rep entered BUD

Sorry, I'm a bit confused by your use of the term "tag number".

Are you asking what other carburetors would be interchangeable with the 1937 Terraplane? If so, it would depend upon whether you're talking the single or double barrel. If your car is the Super Terraplane with double barrel Carter # W1-344 (or W1-377S for late 1937 models), then you could substitute the double barrel postwar carb. WDO-501-S, because that is exactly what I did on my '37, many years ago. It required replacing the later carb's cross-shaft with one from the '37, in order to have the correct arm on the outside, that would fit the 1937's linkage. I retro-fitted the later carb because I was told that it was an improvement over the 1937 carb. I did seem to get better mileage.
  • Jon , tag number I refer to is the little metal tag screwed on that tells what variety of the carb model. I have the single barrel . Was also asking if anyone had successfully used anything other than the WA-! that might be in current supply fresh from the parts house. BUD
  • I don't have any of the other models people mentioned but I do have a 437s and a 501s if you can use either one of those. I also have the complete rebuild kit for these and all other Hudson applications.
