Heater control valve:Rebuild or replace?
The heater control valve in my '49 leaks and doesn't shut off all the way. Is there a replacment unit available that would mount in the same way, maybe from a Rambler? Or if I open up my leaky valve will I be able replace seals and such to restore it? I'd like to keep the basic operation the same with the mount inside the firewall.

Lance Walker rebuilds these units to better than new. It will last another 50 years.0

This valve is called RANCO valve. You can rebuilt it yourself. The part needed is available from NAPA as 660-1000. I did mine. Not sure I would do it again. Bending all those tabs can nerve-racking. Here are some sites showing how it's done. Bear in mind that there are many variations in RANCO valves, so take photo of yours.

Dear Mars:
One of the things I like about these old cars is that you don't have throw away parts to make a fix. I'll see about getting the rebuild kit. I like to fuss with fixing stuff, that's why I have a Hudson. Thanks for the information links.
