It's a crying shame! - The long and tedious task of trying to identify trim.

In our acquiring of Ken Amens parts and other hudson parts we've ended up with a crazy amount of chrome Hudson trim. Unfortunately hardly any of it was labeled before we got it and/or dosn't have part numbers.

To go thru and try to inventory all of it may almost be impossible.

We did manage to sort some out and have it reboxed together to keep it seperate.

Its just a damn shame because alot of it is NOS and quite a bit of it is perfect condition. I hear guys on here looking from time to time for pieces and have a heck of a time finding it.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason the the pieces we have. Some is 4 door some is coupe. I just think its going to be about impossible to sort it out. Unless I just go off of measurements that people are looking for but that just takes too long to look thru it all everytime.

Does anyone have any ideas that might help?

I hate to have it all just sitting here because we don't know what it goes to.

I also don't think alot of this trim is interchangeable.

I have some sorted out and together buts its only a fraction of what we have. For someone who lived close enough to come in and look or bring their trim to match it up they would make out great and may have a chance to find some almost nonexsistant trim.

We are in Richmond, IL. 60071 if anyone wants to come in and try.

Otherwise I don't know how much time I can justify spending on sorting this stuff out.

Its just a shame, unless someone has any ideas? I'm open to any!!

I am about 3 hours from you (bloomington IL). Ideally you need someone who knows trim to tell what it is and have 2 people standing by to put a labels on it.

May find time in june to help.

Next option, take it to the national in Detroit. there will be more hudson buyers there than in recent years. Of course you have expenses as in fuel and hotel but to be honest you will move 100 times more inventory.

But stuff like 4 door trim sells but there is still alot out there and the 4 door trim goes for about 20 percent as to what the coupe stuff sells for.

I see a piece I need in the third barrel from the left. Just kidding.

All I can say is WOW! I wish you luck and I hope you have a few people that can come over and help you.

agrees with Russ - just bring it to Pontiac & lay it out; if they've got the car they will be able to identify it, and if need one, will buy. Just make a $5 pile & a $10 pile for the unidentifiable stuff or whatever price-wise.

It's usually very easy to differentiate step-down from the earlier pieces due to shape & doubt if you have much, if any, pre-WW2 stuff.

If it were me, I would start by dividing the different profiles up. Hopefully that would atleast give you bunches separated by the year, or years. Then if someone calls looking for a specific part you could go to that year/bunch and measure for the length of trim they are looking for. But for sure go to the Nationals. There are many people who don't go on this forum and I'm sure have no idea that you have these parts available.

  • time to make some templates of the known stuff to at least expeidate the process a little. i'd happily take some 52-53 wasp 4dr trim off your hands, in time.
  • Just don't throw away ANY coupe stuff
I can repair almost any trim----really.

I'll testify to RPMonroe's claim. He can fix ANY piece of trim you can dig up.

    Mike-

There's still a few pieces of trim I need for the 'vert, but I'm hesitant to ask you to look for them at this point. Maybe if I sent you a pic of the pieces I'm looking for? From your looks of your stashes, you very well might have what I need.

Might tell Bill & Charlie it's time for an assistant/office organizer, huh? The better organized you are and the more you know, the more you'll sell, I'm sure of it.
