Is my carb in trouble? noob

When I pulled the carb one of the screws holding the throttle body to the main body just fell right out. All the threads in the hole seem to be gone. What kind of problems, if any, can I expect from this? Any easy solutions? The car had been sitting for a decade or so and I dont know if the previous owner was running the car like this or not. Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Hi, I noticed your question about the mounting screw for a carburetor falling out because the threads are gone. First I'll answer your question. Yes, if you run the car like that the carburetor will suck air in at that point and if it runs at all it will have a whistling noise and run very bad because the fuel mixture will be getting too much air. There is an easy solution to your problem though. Just go to an auto parts supply store and ask for a helicoil that is the size of the hole where the threads are missing. When you insert the helicoil in the hole then the bolt will expand:) the coil so that it cuts into the metal and becomes a new thread for the bolt. These things work good but not many people know about them. I hope this helps you some.
