Thanks to all of our servicemen and women who have served or are serving our country so that we may enjoy the freedom we have. Happy Memorial Day to all!

  • Memorial Day is to remember America's military war dead from all wars, plus the Americans that fought and died in the service of our Allies

Veterans Day is to commemorate and thanks America's LIVING Military Veterans.

There IS a difference between the two!!! Please remember this! The line has become intentionally blurred, and this is wrong!

I'm retired USAF, after having spent 20 years in. This blur is one of my pet peeves.

Good point, Patrick, I'm fairly sure many people aren't really aware of this, though I don't think they mean any disrespect by confusing the two.

Anyway, we should all remember today (and every day, really) those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of their country.
  • Thank you, Thats what keeps us FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cannot help but say that I agree with you. I served at a time when it was not considered the most popular time to serve. I like the way we treat our military men and women today much better. God bless them all!! I am retired Air Force.
  • Well said Brownie - I was drafted in 1970 and did my time , got a poor welcome home back then . reguardless of ones feelings of what our leaders have us do , the military people deserve the countrys support.
  • We want to personally thank each veteran that honorably served our country whether in war or not. The families of my Father and Mother served in WWII, my next brother and I served during the Viet Nam period(in Korea). Some of the best training, encouragement, motivation, etc I have ever received in my life. The military training by far enabled me to endure later problems in life and stick it out. 3 yr 4 mo 18 days active US Army, 19 years Nat. Guard, ? Reserves

Proud of my service to my country. Hope you are too. Bob

----Yes Brownie, and there even was a time when your uniform got you a free ride, good meal, and sometimes even a few bucks with the handshake

Speaking of protesters and getting spit on - when I worked at the Navy Yard in Kittery, Maine, back in the 80's a kid got hired. Took about 3 days and somebody found out he was one of those who'd gone to Canada to get out of the draft.

One of the lead men was a 20+ veteran and wasn't happy about the kid being at the yard. He took him over by the dry dock, pointed down and said "Son it's about 40 feet to the bottom - lot of people have slipped on the top of the ladder and fallen!!!"

Kid left that night and never came back to work.
