:)Spent dome time thid week and worked on the '37 Terraplane. Removung the radiator and grill panel was not bad. Removed the engine, then with a little help, removed the transmission. I need some helpful advice please. While the transmission and engine were in the car, unbolted of course, there was little room to remove the transmission. Somewhere along the line, some one installed an overdrive on this transmission. Made it to long to remove from the floor. My younger son decided to try to remove the overdrive tail housing, it was unbolted and went back about an inch then bound up. He insisted he was right, I did not want to do that. Now the trany is out and the overdrive is loose but how is the proper way to get it back together. I have got it to a place, then it binds up. Also when I try to move the shifter into various gears, it does not go anywhere. I am pretty sure the trans was in gear when he tried to remove the overdrive assembly and housing. Any tips on getting this back together, or should I try to find a regular trany with proper driveshaft for this car, a '37 Terraplane. Thanks, Arnie in Nevada.

Al Saffrahn would be the man to answer THAT question! He's the O.D. expert! However, you would do well to identify WHICH overdrive is in there, because of course it was not available in '37 and therefore is from some other year. Check the stamping numbers on the side.
  • You will have to start takeing apart by going into the 3 speed gear box itself. { First off you need a shop manual} Have to remove a snap ring to get the overdrive off the 3 speed box then take the over drive apart and reassemble. No! dont just put a single 3 speed back in place of the OD trans.
