OK GUYS,from knowledgeable guys here on the forum and searching the net I have been given tappet clearance from 6 and 8 hot to 10 and 12 hot, anyone have any info published by HUDSON ? What might be a safe cold setting, don't want it rattleing but don't want it to be too tight either. Anyone ever check to know the difference of a given setting hot and cold , how much it changes ? Would like to get this thing right and move on to other things . BUD

Bud, set them hot and you wont have anything to worry about. It's not that difficult. The problem with giving you a cold figure is the unknown of whether you have stainless, two-piece, or silicon steel valves, as the expansion rate is different. If you are worried, set them at .010 and .015 cold, and re-do them when the engine is totally warmed up. And if you want it from the "horses mouth" Page 8 of the 1937 Terraplane Owner's Manual states - Valve Tappet clearance (Hot) , Intake .006" Exhaust .008"
