Milling Heads On A 212

The splasher has been souped up by some guys. Have any milled the heads for more HP, any problems, about how much HP can be gained, how much is safe useing the old stock pistons ?--BUD

    You can bolt the head from a '39 112 to the 112 block which will result in higher compression and a tad more power. I think that the downside is that it puts more stress on the rods and bearings.



    I assume you're already using the version with a dual throat carb which of course gives you increased HP over the base version.

    I have the single throat carb, I know the dual is supposed to give 5 more HP but I don't want to go parts hunting , nor am I trying to build a hot engine , just want to get what HP I can safely out of what I have .---BUD

    Clean off the 4 corner bolt holes and the 2 in the center outer holes, top and bottom, use steel wool then mike all areas. Stock reading is 2 inch and if you read less than 1.960, meaning cut 0.040 you are safe. Any less reading and you will not keep a headgasket on that engine. People will tell you I cut more than that and never had a problem, they never drove that car on today's freeways. 45 pounds is all you can torque those head bolts for any more and you can pull the studs right out of the block. Walt.

    Thanks WALT, like I said, not trying to build a drag racer, just a decent road runner and I DO intend to get it out on the BIG ROAD and keep up with the traffic, nothing more . ---BUD
