Like many of you, I eagerly looking forward to this years National. I haven't been to the last 2 so really looking forward to see all my old HET cronies I only see at these events.

Will be leaving 2 weeks from today & intend to make the 2000 mile drive, alone, in 3 days (wife flying in). Have started separating various types of literature I'm going to bring & have made a list of parts & memorablia to pick up at my place (live in Phoenix with wife in her house, have my house in mts. up north; lit. here, parts up there, screwy eh? but best I can do).

Enough of that, just thought I'd put a note in here about how much I anticipate this years meet as am sure it will the biggest ever held with lots of wonderful cars + old pals with whom to "kick tires"!

A safe voyage to all of you & to those, like Walt & the couple from N. Z., who are already on the road.

SEE YOU IN PONTIAC

Hudsonly,

Peter K. (as Kelly Hinegardner used to call me).

going to get new Road Atlas at Barnes & Noble today + Best Western Guide. Tues. getting tool box installed on Dodge PU; watertight so can safely put boxes of literature in it.

Will get PU serviced in Prescott before "blasting off" for Pontiac.

See Pendleburys coming from Australia - New Zealanders already here & driving east in their '34 Hudson. Friend Cees from Netherlands & wife (met them again at ROC National a few weeks ago) will arrive July 7 - have never been to a HET National so going to be a great international gathering! Know Pat McDonald from England having '18 H tr. he bought from Dave K. in Wash. delivered to Pontiac, thence on to new home.

    SURE GONNA BE FUN!!

You're really not enthused about all this, are you Pete???? :D

This time next week I'll be anxiously awaiting my "carriage" and chauffeur for the first leg of our journey north.

Plans for Russell, his 5 year old son Miles, Kenny and I are leave to leave the Memphis area Saturday morning and motor to Auburn, IN for overnight. Sunday swing over to Shipshewana and the Hostetler (would be easier to spell if it were Rome and Jones!!!) museum for a couple hours and then on-ward and up-ward to Pony Town.

May well connect with Convoy #3, I think it is, in Auburn Sat night.

Alex - getting "enthused" getting "rained on", LOL! Went over to get my truck, which had been in storage for approx. 2 months & battery dead!

As truck 5 years old think I'd best buy a new one as heat one of the biggest "killers" for batteries rather than just trying to charge it up & hope it doesn't crap out while on long arduous trip.

Wife talked to friend in Detroit yesterday, practically "cold" there with highs in 70's; sure will be a welcome relief from temps here which consistently run between 100 & 110 at this time of year. Did get a big rain here, so called "monsoon season" now - poured for about 5 minutes, sprinkled another 10, LOL, but 1st precipitation in about 2 months (at least ain't no skeeters!) so most welcome. Mts. in north of state been getting rain almost every aft. which is great!

Prepping to leave this aft. Got new battery in truck as well as tool box now mostly full.

Got confirmation letter last night from Centerpoint inc. weather check for 10 days out & looks really good!

Got up a 4 a.m. this morning & about 5, much to my surprise, got a phone call! It was from a member in Texas in route to Pontiac with a Twin H car & the rear carb. (had had them both just rebuilt by Walt) was not drawing air - he was using the "shotgun" approach & calling everyone he knew of or could think of to try & solve problem. He'd tried to call Walt but couldn't get an answer. Car was running very badly & could only get up to about 30-40 mph! Sure hope he got it fixed!

Leaving from Prescott on Sun. - if have the endurance, will try to arrive in Pontiac Tues. night altho have no place to stay, could just sleep in cab.

Could be a crack piston or stuck valve, sound like a compression test is needed

you know I thought of that later, he may have a stuck valve or 2??

:) Just got off the phone with the Texan whose Hornet was not running correctly; Russell Chilton. Russell wanted me to thank all of those who provided him support as he tried to sort out the problem with "DOC" his Hudson Hornet. Russell got DOC back home and is again headed north on I-35 with an alternate means of transportation. Pete you and he will have something in common when you both reach the meet... you both will have come in Dodge pickups! :D

WW - thanks for the update; I couldn't remember his name, sounded like

    "Clinton" so I was close.

Too bad he wasn't able to complete the trip!

I'll be leaving home here in an hr. or 2 for the mts. of no. Az. - glad to "get out of Dodge" (Phoenix, as hot as hell here!).

day 1 done, did over 700 miles today, sending this from Armadillo (LOL).

Loaded PU, couldn't get everything in - did find '36-9 large round porcelain dealer sign (pretty rare as does NOT have Terraplane on it).

Some stuff just going to sell by the box as simply not have the time nor space to unload it such as numerous bearings, valves, ignition. Have a lot of good literature. Sure going to be fun!
  • Glad you are spending the nite in the REPUBLIC! Sorry your route was not through Waco, as you would have had a place to stay with me and the Mrs. Have a safe journey Peter and a great time at the Hudson Nationals.
