Jet overdrive
I drove my jet last week and everything was running fine, but after a while i noticed that the overdrive seemed to be shifting too soon, normally I would get to about 40 let up on the gas and she would shift, no problem. Now it wants to shift right after i get out of secound gear, Any body got any ideas?? I looked at all of the connections and everything seems fine.

Barry - The govener on the OD will allow it to shift at most any speed above 28 mph. I've often wanted to try to figure out how to get this minimum speed up to around 45 myself. I find on my Superjet, that if I go thru the gears at a liesurely pace, I end up in third at about 22 to 25 mph, then can run the car on up to about 45 before lifting my foot for the OD to shift in.

So you are saying that there is probably nothing wrong with it??

Hi Barry, As I understand it the govenor is what determines when the overdrive will kick in, if there is a problem with your car I would guess that the govenor is at fault. I'm no expert but if you have another govenor I would swap it and see if it makes a difference. If the operation all of a sudden changed then there is something going on. Good luck, Dave0

If it is the govenor, where can I get one??

If you can get a part number then you can probably find one on e-bay. I bet the govenor fits many cars, probably other Hudsons. Is it Al Safffran from Arizona who is the OD expert? I bet he has them, he could probably also tell you if that is likely the problem. Good luck0

Borg-Warner (Rancho) Overdrives
Besides the popular Warn overdrive, there is another type you might find on an old Jeep. The Borg-Warner overdrive is different than the Warn overdrive. It was originally designed for two wheel drive applications. An adapter kit was once available to mount one behind the Dana 18 transfer case. The rear driveshaft had to be shortened. Overdrive was only useable in 2WD. The Borg-Warner unit was a forerunner of the Warn overdrive. Once the Warn unit was introduced in the early 1960's, sales dropped off considerably because of the complex installation.
I carry the following electrical components for the Borg-Warner Overdrive;
Governor with gear (used)
$ 45.00
New Reverse rail switch---original
$ 30.00
12-Volt rebuilt solenoid
$ 90.00
Solenoid core charge--$30.00
6-Volt rebuilt solenoid
$ 90.00
Solenoid core charge--$30.00
New relay (from England)----original---$ 85.00
New kick-down switch--original
$ 35.00
Replacement cable assembly
$ 54.00
If you need any other internal component parts, please call, I have an extensive supply of used Borg-Warner parts available.0 -
