Not many '28-'32's. I think there was one '30, a '31, a couple '29's for sure and probably, oh, I think three or so '32's. I've got some more pics and will see about getting some of those up as soon as I can. There's an unbelievable '29 boattail in the Hostetler Museum that I took pictures of and will post that as well. B-E-A-UUUtiful car!!

Thanks! I saw there were two '31 Hudson boattail speedsters for sale in last months Hemmings. They are beautiful!!

As to '28's, Chris Davis brought his '28 H rd. + another showed up yesterday via a huge semi, the one with the supposed Le Baron body, that was displayed & discussed in here a month or so ago.

Hedley Bennett brought his beautifully restored '29 long w.b. 7-pass. H sd. There is at least 1 '30, several E of the early '30s period, a '33 H std. sedan, Ed Souers brought my old '32 H brougham (long w.b. 5 window sedan) which he has beautifully restored - took me for a ride in it yesterday [Ed also has his Italia, X-161, the just restored '54 Jetliner prototype conv., the previously mentioned '33 H std. sd., and his '48 C8 Derham limousine].

There are a LOT of early Hudsons, several '09s, at least one '10, the recently purchased '13 Mile a Minute rd. - quite an array!

A few other "raries": Dick Riggs brought a '16 "center door" sedan from Ore. The door posts are removable in this super-rare alum. bodied model - he has it for sale.

The previously mentioned '48 Derham limousine (only 3 built, saw the '53 made for Barit last night at museum tour to Jack Miller's).

Many trucks in pre-war. Gobs of stepdown conv. Eldon's Dover mail truck, etc.

We left the Nationals this morning. Whoever it was that asked about Jon Battle, he was working and didn't leave until yesterday morning (Wednesday) and was due in about 1AM Thursday morning. Subsequently, we didn't get caught up with him as he was probably sleeping when we left.

Black '53 is Russ Maas' recently completed convertible, it's gorgeous.

Surprisingly, to me anyway, there were 8? or maybe 9 '54 Convertibles. The green one you see was interesting. It is a 15,000-original-mile car. I talked to the owner for a while. The owner had it stored in the garage for about 35 years. They had added onto the front of the garage, and where the '54 was stored, they built a wall in front of it out of 2 x 2's and sheetrock and walled it off shortly after it was parked (I saw the pictures). There was a dent in the driver quarter that had to be repaired, gas was drained, tank was cleaned, oil was changed. The original air is still in the original tires! After the fluid change and a fresh battery, the Hudson fired right up and sounds teriffic now. Amazing.

Can't recall who the red one belongs to, but was a very nice Hudson.

And here's a shot of the airstream. The Hudson in front of it pulled it to Pontiac from CA. Didn't write down the owner's name and didn't get a chance to talk to them, either. Don't know if it was Hudson-powered or not.

And that just about wraps up the pics from the Nat's. I'm gonna share on the forum, I think. I saved a really good one for last. Lots of personal revelations for me on this trip. One was, I spent an inordinate amount of time in the "early" lot, which included '09-'47 H-E-T's. The "later" lot was basically the stepdown lot, but there were so many cars, there was some over-flow between the two, but not much. Someone told me a figure of 387 cars, but not sure about the validity, although I wouldn't doubt it. I'm sure I spent twice the amount of time in the "early" lot. As far as Hudsons go, I'm basically a step-down person, or so I thought. I've found that I've got an equal amount of passion for the earlier cars and am pretty sure, that barring some kind of disaster, there is an early Hudson in my future. And, if one similar to the one in the picture were it, I do believe I'd be one very happy camper. Add one of these to a stable of step-downs, and I'd say I was done.

The '29 boattail was taken at Hostetler's Museum in Shipshewana (sp?), IN. Highly, highly recommended to all Hudson fans. I was in there for 2 hours and could easily have been there for 2 more.

Spoke to the owner of the airstream shortly after he docked that yaht. The Hudson pulling it is Chevy powered. He drove it out from the west coast catching some of the sights along the way, Grand canyon and yellow stone etc. Brought the whole rig across lake Michigan on the ferry, they charge by the foot, ouch!

Ouch is right! But then again, maybe it was cheaper than "driving around" the Lake. It was probably faster, anyway, and the amount of time those folks spent on the road, maybe they were a little excited to get to the Nats.

The swap-meet was mind-boggling. I had to keep leaving to go to the ATM. I found '40 taillights (NOS), spare tires and tubes, and more water jackets than I knew what to do with.

Richard E on the forum here rode shotgun with him on the trip, he'll know. I want to say the owners name was Larry, but my brain is overwhelmed by all the names and faces I was tying together. I love vintage trailers and hope to get a canned ham to tow behind my Jet one of these days, so I was thrilled so see this here.

Here are a couple shots of the 1916 Touring Sedan by Biddle & Smart (custom coach builder), door pillars removed for the early "hardtop" look.

That limo was really a bizarre car. No front doors, driver had to enter from rear doors and then squeeze between to front seats no more than 6" apart to get behind the wheel. In other words, after driver let in passengers in back, had to get in with them and then move to the front. I've never seen anything like that, regardless of make.

Niels-

The swap meet was mind-boggling. The "space" that they set aside for the vendors was quite large, but the vendors out-grew the space. It looked like a swap meet at a medium-sized street rod venue, 'cept it was all HUDSON parts! Heaven, just heaven.

It was just the opposite of going to the street rod meet and scouring EVERYTHING looking for the one Hudson part you come across
