'47 sedan for sale

Anybody interested in an all original (I'm told) '47 sedan? Mileage is 69,250 and apparently it was running until someone left the key on, fried the points (years ago) and it has been parked since.

I have more pictures if anyone wants them. Owner says he's had two bites around five - seven k, but nobody's followed through with real cash, and he's not holding his breath for it.

The grille emblem bezel indicates it's a '46. Is the trunk ornament plastic or cast metal?
  • Sweet. You're in Alberta, is that correct, Silverone? Where is the car located?

Two things: 1) have you looked the car over personally? 2) would you be able to help supervise/assist if I arranged for transport back East (Ontario)?

    I'm awfully tempted....

Serial # is 17194510 if that helps. Owner has passed away. Don't know relationship of seller to past owner yet. Have asked for more detail as to location but will have to wait until this evening for more info because seller works 12 hrs/day, and has only evenings to deal with email.

    Will update asap.

That's just what you need, Ryan. A pre-stepdown to add to the stable! Looks like a good one, to boot.

Wow hope she gets a real good home.
  • That is just the model we are looking for, but a bit far from Texas. Checked one out when we were at the National, but the paint (which looked good on the craig'slist ad) was the only thing holding the rust together!

At this point Don, I've no idea where this car is, so don't rule out your chances yet. It could be just down the street from you. :)

I'm in BC, and have not personally seen this car Canadian Hud. Transportation has never been an issue for me, but then I have my own enclosed trailer, so that helps a lot. I'll do whatever I can to help a fellow Hudsonite though.

  • Thanks very much. I will wait and watch to read what you learn about the car. Then ... we'll see. It looks like a real find if it is as solid underneath as above. Thsnks. Geoff.

I guess I'll have to pass on this one Russell, 'cuz I've pushed the limit too far already in projects I'll probably never have the time to finish !!

This one looks like it could be someone's pride and joy driver, and if another family gets to treasure and enjoy it, then that'll be the joy I get from it too.

Another Hudson out there on the road is reward enough for this old bird, these days, especially if there's a couple grinning kids in there with the new owner when it goes gliding by.
  • Turns out car is in Maine, N.Y., near Binghampton, or about 60 miles south of Syracuse.

Quite a ways away for us West Coasters, but then again --- the chase is always a huge part of the fun!! My wife and I have had some of our most memorable trips off chasing a lead on some dusty old Hudson somewhere.

She'd go again in a heartbeat if I asked her.

This one's not for me though -- I'm plumb out of room to store any more cars.

Here ya go Geoff !! You say you're back East in Ontario, Canada, and according to mapquest, the car is only 311 miles from Toronto !!

Heck, you could check that one out on a day trip, and have a great drive for your troubles -- even if you don't buy the car!! I wouldn't dither too long though -- I've learned the hard way that the good ones vanish in days, or even hours when the word leaks out, especially so if they're reasonably priced.

  • I'll pop down tomorrow -- a nice scenic ride -- or as soon as I can contact the owner. At a minimum I can report what I find.

Do you have contact information, Silverone?

Well, if you decide to pass, I would be interested in what you can tell me about the car. Although it's a long way from Texas, it is just a weekend drive from where I was raised in northern Ohio. Thanks!

I'll see if I can get you a phone number by tonight, Geoff. I'll have to email to get it.

  • Thanks Ryan. You can post it here or pm me. Appreciate the help.

PM'd you Geoff -- I hate to post anyone's personal info here or anywhere else on the net.

Please let us all know how you make out.

  • Just to keep anyone who is interested informed --- I have spoken to the seller of the 47. It has been in dry storage since 2002, brought down to NY from BC, Canada. Drove it onto the truck from BC but left ignition on -- burned out points. That owner died, daughter is selling. Presently in storage facility. Will inspect next weekend -- August 15th.

If anyone is interested and would like me to look for specific things for you, I will do. List here or send me a pm and I'll do my best.

Similarly, If there is anything you think I should note/be wary of with this model, please drop me a line. I'm not that familiar with pre-stepdowns.

    Thanks ...

So where are we on this car? Didja see it, buy it, what?

Sorry Uncle Josh. On other threads I am busy getting ignition advice and looking for an oil bath air filter, so yes -- I picked it up.

It's a looker. Pretty much original. Original body, one repaint (looks like) reasonable chrome, excellent interior (stock), optioned out a little.

It needs a little cleaning up and changing of fluids, tune up etc, but I expect to be driving it within three weeks.

Happy to be a two Hudson owner (one of which will be on the road).
