Hi,

I have a 54 hornet sedan that I cant get the generator to work. I was driving home and lost the pully. I still managed to get home though because believe it or not it ran for a short distance ont he nut. After is got home I took apart an old generator and switched the pully from the old one. Boy what a pain to get off since I didn't have a wheel puller. Never the less I got it done. I reinstalled and All I get is a bright red amp light. After hooking the leads to the generator up same problem . Any suggestions ? Thanks

  • Did you polarize the generator per instructions in the manual?

With everything hooked up, Ground the Field terminal to the frame and briefly short the A and B regulator terminals with a jumper wire.
  • To check that the generator is indeed capable of charging, remove the fan belt, ground the field terminal, and apply 6 volts to the Armature terminal. The generator should then spin slowly, drawing about 5 amps. If it does this it should be okay, and the problem is in the regulator or your connections.

  • Thanks, however I'm not sure which is the field terminal .

  • The field is the smaller. The armature the larger terminal.
