Guys,

I have new bearings. I got the nut off the bottom. I can't seem to get the pin to move. What do I do next?

R/ Roger.

    Roger,

The pin (if you are referring to the center steering pin) is held in by a pin that runs through the larger steering pin near its base, it's probably concealed by grease. You have to press that small pin out.

what??? anyway. it is just a long bolt. beat it out using some heat and penitrating oil. buy a new grade 8 ARP stainless one from totally stainless to replace it, it will come out nice the next time ( with anti-sieze of course). did this on my 41, it is cherry now!! I had to cut the bolt head off mine and beat it out from the top with a punch and hammer.
  • Dougson is referring to the taper pin that runs through the pivot shaft you need to remove that before removing the pivot shaft. Best to press out. I just did one for my 54 used my press for the whole operation. I also used a bushing instead of the roller pin bearings I think its a way better setup.
  • Roger - What year car are you working on - stepdown or pre-stepdown? They are different. Norm

Yes, it's on my 46. The truck has a narrow 232 in it now. I think there's enough room to drive it up and out, if that's all I need to do. So- heat and beat?

  • Roger - I have seen a case where the bolt is rusted to the sleeve so bad that the bolt had to be drilled out from the bottom. The way it is made it's hard to get enough heat to do any good. Norm

We sell new sleeves and now offer new washers that go above and below. 21stcenturyhudson.net
