Hey Hudnuts,

So I noticed my water pump was dripping, bummer. Decided I better change out the pump. Went to the 'extra parts cabinet' and pulled out my rebuilt pump....Oh Oh

Its a non bypass type and I have a bypass type on my car!

SO..wondering if someone has a rebuilt bypass type they want to trade for a rebuilt non bypass type? :D

Thanks all,

T Jeff

You could also look for a non-bypass type neck, to bolt to your cylinder head. Then the pump would work!
  • Jon has the best idea. This was one of the tech sessions at the National meet you can pick-up a 1938 -1947 neck that is already recessed cut and use a modern thermostat, i did and it works great in my 37. Chuck G.

    Hey Chuck and Jon,

Ok so what t-stat would I run? Also and advantage or disadvantage to not having the bypass?

I am currently running a 155' t-stat and seems to be Ok so far...

or would just eliminating the t stat be better for overall cooling?

    Thanks,

    T Jeff
  • You can run a stat you can buy at any auto parts store. Its alittle hard to find a bypass stat and they have not been made for a long time, most you find are no good anyway and they want as much for a old stat as you can buy a new one . I think i have a 160 in my car, a parts store will match youone of the right diameter to fit the recess in the housing. Chuck G.
