I have a MOTORS MANUAL best book ive ever owned especially for a good general overview of carbureators used on the popular model cars . so far ive been able to identify exactly which ever model of carb ive come across . at the moment i am working with a carter WGD 1954 tag number 776S i am wondering where or who are the go to people for carbureator kits . i dont want to send it out and spend a bunch of money on the carter because i am also kicking around the idea of running a brand new two barrel carb . http://www.jegs.com/p/Barry-Grant/Demon-Race-Demon-2-bbl-Carburetors-Oval-Track/743597/10002/-1 on my 308 hudson The motors manual doesnt give a CFM rating on the WGD so i am wondering about a formula to calculate the CFM of a 308 motor i suppose it would be cubic inches X RPM`s what do you all think best regards goo

Best guess for a single carburetor:

    308" × 80% efficiency (just a guess, probably less) × 4,500 RPM × 110% (correction for only 6 cylinders) ÷ 3,456 = 353 CFM.

However this is for a 4 bbl. carburetor; to get 1 or 2 bbl. CFM multiply by 1.414; 2 bbl. flow rate = 499 CFM.
  • thank you for the reply on the cfm`s formula - g
