What is it worth 35 Terraplane 4 door?

Need to see pictures. Different people have different ideas and interpritations of "good condition", "original", "no rust", and "it's all there".:) I hope you don't take offense to that, but even after you show pictures you'll still get a different price from everyone that responds. Hopefully you'll get a ball park idea though.

Just some thoughts to work from. Old Cars Price Guide shows two models for the 1935 Special G. In number 1 condition (that would be perfect and fresh restoration) 4 door sedan $14,200, 4 door Sub Sed $14,300. In the Delux GU model there are three to choose from. The top of the line 4-door Sub Sedan in the GU model in number 1 condition is $14,300. In my humble opinion if you find one in that kind of condition and you decide not to buy it give me a shout and I will write out the check site unseen. I think OCPG is a bit low on these. They have one needing a full restoration at around $1,500. These are only figures to consider what interest you have. There are not many of these around so the price guide does not really mean anything. My advice---Go for it!!!! It is only money, time and work? At any price it is a good deal......0

Threads like this are useless, truly. No pictures, no detailed description, no nothing. It is worth what a buyer and yourself agree to on a price, period. Do your research online by looking at ads for '35 Terraplanes and Hudsons. Consider today's economy. What would YOU give for it, if you were buying it???0

the post by 66patrick66 is pretty direct. i agree with the message. the final value is what some one (you in this case) is willing to spend and what the owner will accept. you have not given enough information for anyone to determine an accurate valuation for this car. i did see two years ago a '35 terraplane sedan deluxe that one "best restored sedan in canada" at a show sold for $12,500. regards, tom0

When I was deciding on what type of car to buy I asked the same question. My search zeroed in on four door late 30s to early 40s Buick Roadmaster, Hudson or Terraplane. What I wanted was a stock driver. The best interior and power was the Roadmaster. Best handling was the early 40s Super Six that I ended up buying. Best looking the Terraplane. Prices for a stock complete driver Terraplane were listed by the Nada as between 4,500 and 8,000, which seems about what I found. Prices for a super clean stock one ranged from 13-16k.
Personal opinion; these prices are crazy. For the price of a 5 year old minivan you can pick up one of the most classy looking cars ever made. Even stock they drive just fine on surface streets. They are so well balanced you do not even think about needing power steering.
They are worth more than you will pay, and you will put in more money than you will get back out.0 -
If you want to see the other end of the price. This is a 35 I spent 10 years building and some times if there are over 300 left maybe they should be street rods. I built it to drive and I did then had some guy chase me until I sold. This is the second owner since I had it and I would think he would come down in price some.

Very nice car. I guess that is what is good/bad about our system. If someone is willing to pay the price, and someone wants it bad enough--it becomes a good deal. I run a part time business doing car appraisals. When I look at a car, there is a lot to consider. I have been known to review a "hot rod" or "resto rod" and in the end give it a value much the same as the ad you posted here. If the work is that good, and you consider the value compared to a modern sports car or a high end restoration it is not unlikely that a really sharp car would get an appraisal that is high. Bottom line, supply and demand determine if a car can be sold for the value advertised. Those of us who place a value on a car simply are giving our opinion of what we see and in a lot of cases what we think a market value might be. Publications like Old Cars Weekly, Ebay or Hemmings are simply a value that gives us a place to start. You will notice that a lot of cars have reserves on Ebay, and a lot of those cars never reach reserve. Does that mean that the car is not worth the reserve price or simply that the seller did not find someone willing to pay what the owner thought it was worth. If the Ebay posting reached enough people would the car sell? And if it did sell, was it really worth that much?0

The boys are right. 1.) we need pictues and information and 2.) all the pictures you can stand to take.
Of course, the value is determined by a willing buyer and a willing seller.
However, if you post some good pictures and provide information about the car's condition and if it has all the parts then you will get a pretty good idea of the car's value.
Don't underestimate the cost of restoration, whether it is just cosmetic or a complete body-off, frame-up job (BOFU). In my experience, restoration costs are sunk costs and are just about impossible to pass on the another buyer unless it's a complete BOFU and the car is as it was when it left the factory and is completely original. Then you will probably recover a lot of those restoration costs.0 -
The fact that the car has 27K on it means zip. I know of a 10K mile '66 Chrysler 300 coupe...but it's been out in a pasture since 1970 and is barely a parts car. "Same owner 50 years" is equally meaningless. Was that from 1935 to 1985? With 17 owners since then? So what.
All utterly meaningless without documentation, detailed history, pictures of every possible nook and cranny in the car...get the point?0 -
Thank you who tried to help me with this.I have only seen the car one time and have no pictures. The people who have it now have owned over 50 years. It has been in a garage with 7 other cars. The owner took great car of all these cars. It appears to be completely stock. I am trying to buy it.Thanks again to the ones who tryed to give me some ideas on the car.bc0
