When I bought my truck a few years ago, the only options it had from the production list were: elect clock, twin horns and oil bath air cleaner. Even those could have been installed by a dealer.
It was interesting for me to know what options came from the factory and that there were no other gear ratio options listed.
Vacuum antenna? What is it? How does it work? Does the antenna retract going up a hill similar to the wipers stoping?
Dealers were good about accomodating customers wants. Case in point: In 1951 Dad bought a new 4 door Hornet. He liked the interior in another Hornet better than his car. The Bubank Hudson dealer, C & P Hudson Co., swapped interiors between the two cars to please him. Mom didn't like the exterior paint color. Dad had it repainted two tone colors. I don't know if the dealer did that. I was 8 and didn't like the new car smell. Solution, live with it or roll down the windows. Ha.
I really liked that Hornet. Hope to have one some day. Lee0 -

Rick - The eighteen inch wheel is the one in the picture, a Commodore Wheel, available as factory option, or could be dealer installed. Available only in blue

I think the vacuum antenna was introduced in '39 or '40. One of our Chesapeake Bay chapter members owns a '40 Country Club with that option. It would be similar to the one on Dad's '54 Cadillac, where you pulled the radio knob out, and the fender antenna extended to full height, or pushed in the button, and the antenna retracted. I'm not sure what type of switch or button the Hudson version had, though. The antenna would not have retracted when you went up a hill....but it probably wouldn't have extended quite as quickly as when you were sitting and idling!0

Jon, that's interesting. Hope someone can shed more information about it. I've not found any mention from my 47 owners manual or Mechanical Procedure Manual about the vacuum antenna. Next I'll try Alex Burr's General Information Handbook.

Adding to the options list. 46 - 47 PU exerior colors:
Black
Gunmetal
Dark Blue
Question: What color is Dark Blue? Is it:
Jewel Blue
Jamestown Blue
Jefferson Blue
Bar Harbor Blue or
Belvedere Blue
Question: What interior color options were available for the PU.
My 47 PU has blue interior and exterior colors, but I can not find the color code.

Lee - All 1946 and 1947 production up thru 5-3-47 would have been Bar Harbor Blue Poly. Beginning on 5-4-47, the color was changed to Belvidere Blue. Both years the color code was "B". Acording to my color swatches, there is very little difference in the actual color. This should be stamp0ed into the right upper door hinge on the cowel or the "A" piller.

There is an oval indentation in the right upper door hinge. At the time I posted I hadn't recognized that as a code.
What infromation is needed to determine the production date?
Do you have any information on interior colors for 47 PU?

Lee - As far as I can remember, all trucks had a medium dark blue letherette seat and door panels, medium non-metalic gray window garnish and dash which was not grained and the standard super six steering wheel. Some had a headliner formed from a hard board like the material on the cowel under the dash, and some had a fabric headliner in a medium grey color. The rear panel behind the seat was left pretty well without any covering.and of course the rubber floor mat.

Car numbers of the 1947 models use the first three figures to denote the chassis model instead of the first two as on previous models. The remaining figures in the car number comprise the actual serial number of the car, and these figures run in a single series, regardless of model.
The serial number of my 1947 Cab Pickup is 178-21742. Going by the aforementioned chart, that should indicate a production month of February 1947.

My interrior is just as you discribed. Except my truck needs total restoration. There is still about 1 inch of fabric headliner left above the right door and appears to be light gray. Across the roof are 2 bows for attaching the headliner.

The serial # on my 47 PU is 1789691. From the chart you posted, the production date should be January 1947.
Thanks to all who particilpated in this thread and provided information I had no knowledge of.
Vacuum Antenna Option. Does anyone know of a 46 - 47 PU with the vacuum Antenna Option installed?
Anyone with additional information please feel free to share it.

It may be, with a chrome base added. But it may be an electric antenna.
Someone living in the 903 area code could contact Rocky Jennings at 903 372 8472 and ask if his 47 pu has the vacuum antenna and let us know.
