Best grounding method
I've been tinkering with my truck a bit more, the wiring is a disaster. It's a home-made harness, and the electrical tape is falling off of most of the splices:eek:
I got it running and starting on it's own, but to do so I have to use jumper cables to ground the starter to the battery. The PO installed a ground strap directly from the (-) post to the alternator, but thats it. It's rusty and corroded on top of that. (This is a 12V (-) ground sbc setup.)
I plan to pick up new ground cables this week. I plan on grounding the battery directly to the frame, and from there a shorter cable to the engine, most likely the front motor mount. I figure if I attach these to clean metal I should have a very good ground connection. Any suggestions on what I should do / not do here?
Thanks,

Matt-
Your third paragraph: That's exactly how I always do it. Along with new straps, see if that doesn't fix your problem.0 -
Matt, You can't "over-ground" I mean secure a very clean connection directly to the frame and block. Be sure your starter wire is the correct size and is flexable.I always have a rule to never break or use any type mechanical connector in an electrical path --too much chance of oxidation, corrosion and dirt. Then coat with some "No-Ox" find it at any electrical supply house in small quantities.
No time for "war stories"but when I was in the Elect Bus i saw all sorts of disasters from poor paths to ground0
