Hello All,

How can you tell a 308 crank from a 262/232 (other than mesuring stroke)? Is there a different casting number on them? Any info would br greatly appreciated.

  • Anyone know of any distinct markings, etc?
  • Dave,

I have just answered your PM regarding this question. I had the same question a decade ago and was answered by Kelly Hindgartner via snail-mail. If you want to post my reply to your PM here - please do.

If there is an easy or simple method, I am sure that everyone would like to know - and would make a good item of reference for anyone searching posts/threads as well...

    Here you go 46:

    Crank Forging numbers

    48-54 262 #301794 #303037

    50-54 232 #303011 #358011

    51-54 308 #304668

    55-56 308 #5325009
  • Well, you'd have to at least take your oil pan off!

I had this picture in my old gallery here.

If you'll look at the thin counterweight between the #3 rod and the second main - you can faintly see the forging number on the crank.
