FYI

Few pictures of a Hornet block cut into a small cross-section for reference.

In some ways, that's somewhat painful to look at. Very interesting though. Cool car it's sitting on, too.
  • How many more of those pieces do you have? Are they 308?

I find it fascinating, and would like some more pictures if you'd send them to me via e-mail?

I've never seen that "siamesed" portion of the cylinder wall and port bowl before in real life. At least not from that perspective.

    FYI

This piece of the motor block was given to me along with a circle track oil pan by Dave Kostansek a few yrs ago. I believe Dave obtained it with a few old motor cores & parts he purchased from a family that had raced Hornets and apparently 'blew' this motor. I find it reveals sturdy internals with lot of material to 'finese'...
  • Well, if you've read the "Performance 6" thread - you understand why I'd like to study that piece.

Yeah, finesse - that's what we'll call it.

Interesting stuff. I don't have a block in bad enough shape to cut up like that.

Mark, I read the Performance 6 Thread... It was the reason I Posted the picture. If you wish I could mail you the pictures then you could enlarge.

Incidently, back when circle racing, I always bored Hornets out 1/8" and never had a head gasket problem even when ocassionally overheated from mud. I always started with a good block though...
