Hudson steering pin issue

Hi!

ive started checking the front suspension in my 52 Hornet , and found out that the steering pin simply needs replacement.

The thing is not that simple , as the original one was a thrust bearing housing. a bearing that would fit to the hole is easy to get (ball thrust bearing) , but im affraid it might be not as strong as the original one .. anyone faced such a problem ? how to repair a worn swivel(king) pin ?

Thanks

Michael

Check with Randy Mass on this forum, he has a repair kit that will improve the original design.

  • Michael - are you refering to the center point steering pin or the king pin at the spindle? Norm

    Thanks

  • Michael: The repair for the king pin wear is to replace the pin with a kit that includes the pin and bearings. These kits are available from time to time on eBay or from Dale Cooper: the following is from his on-line catalog KING PIN SET 1940-54 ALL EXC JET $160

Randy - center steering pin is easy to deal with.

The problem is the steering pivot pin... ill check with dale , hopefully this would be it , but since i would have to wait more than a month to recieve the package , ill have to do sth on my own..

When you order the king pin set make sure you specify the year and model. 1940 to 1947 take a different kit, pin is 3/8 of an inch shorter that the 1948 to 1954. Walt.
