Hudson School Bus
FYI
I came across this picture of my old friend & mentor's Hudson School Bus he converted into a camper that traveled our Country going to Meet's up until the early '90's with Hornet 6 power.
Thought I would Post to jog some memories. Initially, the Hornet was coupled up to a 5spd, then he added a 2nd transmission for an overdrive, then later ended up installing an AMC 327 V8 when the 6 eventually wore out.....

Too cool...wish that bus would pull up in front of my house when I was in school!0

LMAO... Awsome, just awsome. would almost make me wanna go back to school. Now why didn't we have that to transport meet attendees on tours at the national? LOL0
-
If he drove it into the 90's, is it still around? Too cool. It makes me think of the school bus they redid for John Force on Overhaulin.0

Unfortionately, the School Bus is just setting and when I last seen it a few yrs ago it was getting too badly rusted to restore, except for the driveline. It regularly traveled the east coast from Pa. to Fl. and went out west a few times...
The owner enjoyed telling how he could pass semi's in the mountains then at Truck Stop's the Truck Drivers occassionally would ask to see the Bus motor then marvel at the 6 cyl......0 -
so what chassis is this cool old bus based on?
Don't tell me that Hudson actually made this at the factory!
that would make a cool car hauler for the 50 PaceRacer...

Would somebody please tell me what, "LMAO" means, also while you are at it, "IMHO?"
I lived in a 1956 4 wheel drive International 30 passenger school bus for a while in the 1960's and I thought that it was pretty cool, but I have never in my life seen a Hudson school bus! Where is it, I want it!0 -
For all of these, Google "Urban dictionary"....IMHO is "In my humble opinion".0

To quote a Hudson video I saw "It's torque and not Horsepower that does the work"0 -
I do have a front clip off a 1937 terraplane commercial......weld it to a 30's bus, cool stuff!!!0

FYI
Hudson never made a Bus. This Bus had the oridginal front end removed and the '54 front clip installed outside since he only had a one car garage. The largest feat was making his own adaptor to bolt the Hornet to the Bus Trans. He also installed another (2nd) transmission behind the original giving him twice the gearing along with a 2spd rear...
Just something for someone to consider doing again using todays technology....0 -
that's one of the coolest project I have seen in quite some time. would be fun to do one like that but finding an old bus chassis around here would be a pain.
I need to remember to keep an eye out and see what pops up.
thanks for the info but do you remember what chassis this is built on? I know that Studebaker, International, Ford and GMC were the big chassis suppliers back in the 40-50 around here. The angled front of the bus makes me think its from the late 40's thru early 50's.
thanks for sharing this with us.

I will talk with the builders son's when they call again since I cant recall the Make for certain. I really think it was a Ford though. It would be a real head turner if another Bus was created. That '54 Hudson Bus was a camper inside, but I have seen other Buses around here made into Car Haulers. One has an open rear door with pull down ramps and the other bus was shortened and two long ramps welded on for the racer0
