Headlight relay

When I am adding a relay where does it go in the system? I'm thinking it goes between the junction block and the headlights. Does that sound right? Will any relay work or does it need to be 6 volt specific?

    There is a relay on the radiator shroud that looks like it goes to the headlights, I haven't traced the wire all the way to the headlights yet. It looks as old as everything else on the car so maybe it doesn't work any longer but the headlights work okay. Maybe it's a horn relay.

    Harry, that's likely the headlight relay ... they're typically out front there, where the L- and R-side wires separate. Should be one heavy wire to the relay, coming from the starter solenoid or other direct battery power source.

    Park, that's the set-up, what is the benefit of the headlight relay?

    A headlight relay is a good idea because it takes the load off of the head light switch and puts it on the relay. The headlight switch only has millivolts passing thru it to energize the relay, in theory the switch should last forever.
