Need help with brakes on 56 Hudson Hornet.
Where can I go to buy parts for doing all the brakes? I will need the shoe and spring kits, the wheel cylinders and I need to find where to buy or have rebuilt the master cylinder/power brake unit. Also I found that I need a J-736-B puller to get the rear drums off....where can I get one of those or something else that will work?
By the way, this is the Hollywood edition with the Packard 352 V8 in case that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Bart

When I rebuilt the brakes on my old '56 Hudson Wasp, all of the brake parts (except drums) were still available from NAPA. That was in early '03.0

Look in Hemmings, there's a place in San Jose California that rebuilt my power brake unit and did a great job. Dittos Napa.0

I used Karps Power Brake Service in Upland, California, they did a great job. One day service on most items... my Treadle-Vac took a week!

Hey, sorry to add to this thread again, but anyone have any ideas on how to get the rear drums off? I doubt that I will find the J-236-B puller. I would appreciate any suggestions.0

This is the replacement for the J-236-B puller. There are other bands available. Search the internet for "Wheel Hub Puller". On the rear wheel cylinders, there are two sizes used; 7/8 and 15/16. So check first.

I have an old snap-on puller that you need. I paid $100.00 for it on EBAY, will sell for same. it is real nice.0

NAPA had them, check there. If not, they come up on Ebay all the time.

For heaven's sake loosen, but do NOT remove, the axle nut before pulling the drum. When it finally lets go, you don't want to have it surgically removed from your chest.0

Why put the het, then tell you to remove it? I have 3 brand new ones, the 3 leg type that you hit the cross shaft to put pressure to pull the drum. Walt.0 -
