Unusual Hudson At Hershey
This '38 Hudson convertible brougham, "barn fresh", was for sale at Hershey, and was purchased by a gentleman from Long Island, NY for about $40,000. According to my records from the H-E-T Club booth at Hershey, he has joined the Club. Here's a link to a photo of it (from among many taken by the president of one of the AACA regions, and uploaded to the internet).

Jon, Would you happen to know how many 38 Hudson convertibles are even left?0
-
WOW, whatta find! Undoubtedly an H8 - has optional front bumper guards, fender lights, wonder if has Elec. Hand, etc.?
Looks to be original paint AND the top with snap-in side windows, indicating a conv. brougham, still intact!
Are there any other photos available?????? Sure would be a boon to other restorers if so!0 -
also on this link, Wed., shows not only the '38 conv. again, with a very nice original "HUDSON TERRAPLANE" original dealers porcelain sign on the pavement beside it but are also several pics of a '31 H BT !!!!!!!!!!0

I'd be willing to bet there isn't more than 5-6 '38 convertibles left, total.
Great find! Looks all original and all there, a huge plus.0 -
What a great find. Looks to be unmolested and solid as a rock aswell.0

The late Kelly Hinegardner had a 38 convert brougham - and I got a ride in it when I went over to his place in Arkansas to visit. Last I heard was his widow had sold it to a museum.

Wow what a find, and a car that's got enough there to work with. 2005-2007 roster shows 3 '38 converts. This makes 4. I also saw one on a Wikipedia page noted as being in India I think, but who knows. There's still cars hidden out there. I tend to think a lot of pre-war cars weren't kept because people were thrilled to be able to scrap them or get rid of them when new cars became available post-war. Then again, convert production was never very high.0

sure like to have more pics of it avail.! did any of you attendees take any interior shots, closeups, or engine pics?
I assume it's an H8 but could be a 6.0 -
Here's yet another one.... in Nepal. Anyone up for a trip to Katmandu?0
-
...And here's one in Argentina. "Ran when parked".....0
-
That was the one, Nepal, not India! Anyways I was refering to '38 Convertibles in general, not by model of Hudson Terraplane vs. Hudson. So guessing there's about 5 in existance that we know about or could identify at this point.
Hmmm if I made a trip to Nepal to recover that car I wonder how that negotiation would go???? LOL0 -
Is the one in Argentina for sale?0
-
This fellow (Marcelo Kaplan) sells antique cars in Argentina:
http://www.kaplansfamily.com/index2.htm
Back in '98 he had a '37 Terraplane convertible for sale. Price (it was complete but needed plenty of work!) back in '98 was $5950 plus $850 for various expenses and $1517 for container shipping to an East Coast port.
He also knew of the '38 Hudson convertible (owned by someone else) for sale, and the price at that time was $8,950 plus expenses (use the Terraplane "extras" as an indication).
Of course both cars may be sold by now.0 -

The 38 Kelly restored was originally in the Pete Booz collection. I have posted a picture of the car while still with Pete and one at the last national Kelly atteneded. The other picture is from one of the earliest HET nationals.0 -
Jon, did anyone buy the Hudson Terraplane sign? Who was selling it?0
-
The photo was taken at the Hershey flea market by someone else. I have no idea who was selling the sign, nor whether it sold.0
-
one reason I sold it was it was a 6; Kelly converted it into an 8 (had forgotten I'd owned it, LOL) - came out of the the "wine country" area of Calif. around Napa.0
-
'46 - I looked over carefully your pics of the '31 HBT as one of the members of the Hudson 8 group wanted to contact the owner in case it is for sale. I could not read the windshield paper & it had no lic. plates on it.
Was it for sale or on display? TY0 -
no, the red boattail0
-
Pete, the red & black 31H Boattail was for sale by the Dragone brothers. asking price was $150,000. When I saw it the sign was already marked SOLD. It was a really beautiful car and looked very correct to me.
