Help - Clutch Engagement ???????
I backed the transmission off and reset it (as per other post Transmission Reinstall). It went in OK, I guess. I still had to use a pry bar and loosen the motor mounts to get the trans mount bolt holes to line up.
I have attached the shift lever and cross shift cable and I am able to get smoothly through the gears.
I installed the clutch cross shaft assembly and the linkage to the clutch pedal. I have NOT installed the springs.
I do not seem to have any real action in the clutch. I thought I should have to work hard against the clutch plate springs to start to disengage the pressure plate from
the drive plate.
I feel as if I am missing something or I do not have something installed correctly. Things are looking like my "before" pictures.
Any suggestions? They are all appreciated.

There is a pedal adjustment that if not right will seem to have the clutch not engaging at all. Like slipping and whatnot.0

The clutch cross shaft is mounted to the cross member and the other end engages the bellhousing. If you did not mount the transmission to the mount, the clutch linkage cross shaft will be out of alignment and the clutch can not be disengaged properly.
Everything must be bolted into proper position before any of the alignment information is valid.

Transmission is mounted properly - well at least it looks like it and the bolts all lined up. Transmission mount is on crossmember and bolted in as well.
Cross shaft is bolted to cross member like it should be.
I just seem to remember that the clutch pedal engaged the throwout bearing much much sooner than it does right now.0 -
Check that your cross shaft bushings aren't worn out. I found that on my '49 that I was 'losing' about 3/4" of clutch pedal travel before the throwout bearing started to move at all.
In my case the cross shaft bushing nearest the transmission was toast, and made a huge difference when I replaced it.0 -

All the "slop" I am finding is in the travel of the Throwout Bearing. I really thought it should be engaging the fingers sooner.0
