Does a 54 262 have the same relief that the 308 does. I have never had the head off the motor and would like to know. I have a twin -h and 232 head I was thinking of puttin on her to give her alittle more oats. Might even spring for a headder and duals.

    Dusty,

I don't really know about a '54 engine, for sure, but is the relief you're talking about the large milled cut on the top of the block that's somewhat centered between the valves and bore on each cylinder? If so, that was added way back in '49, sometime around car serial no. 94,xxx

This is a 262 from a 54 Super Wasp. No big relief here.

You can see the milling between the valves and the cylinder. This is what Hudson made such a big deal about in their advertising as "Super induction". All '54 engines have it, including Jet. Ostensibly it enhances the gas flow between the valves and the piston.
