Don't know how many of you guys get the HD Theater Channel on your cable system. I'm in Detroit and it's channel 205 on the digital tier. They have a show called "Chasing Cars" with Wayne Carini, a dealer from CT. After tonight's episode they ran a teaser for the next episode, about a 1920s barn find car. Sitting next to it in the barn is an absolutely pristine Hudson Italia! Can't wait until next Tuesday night to see it.

Anybody know whose Italia it is?

  • Wayne owns an Italia. He purchased the car from Ray Robinson' sister after he died. Ray was a wonderful fella and he gave me a ride in that car at the Youngstown HET nationals.

I saw Wayne's Italia at the Fairfield Concours de elegance and it's original right down to the tires........
  • Thanks, Ken....I had no idea that Wayne was "one of us." I really enjoy the show, as he doesn't always hit the jackpot with every car he sells. He got burnt on a Jag a few weeks back, but I don't think they'll be holding any telethons for the guy.
  • Ray Robinson had his Italia at one of my parents' (Dick and Ruth Royer) HET meets in central Pennsylvania. This would have been about 1966. Ray needed something from a shopping center, about 25 miles away. Being a stranger to the area I volunteered to go along as a guide, to my pleasant surprise he allowed me to drive the Italia there and back. It was a real treat to put 50 miles on that car.

Somewhere in the thousands of family picture I have, there is a picture of my son Matthew standing in the front seat of Ray's Italia. He was 3 at the time. He turned 33 last Monday.
  • The episode aired tonight. Wayne entered an all original 1918 Panhard in the Meadowsbrook Concours D'Elegance, which is about 15 miles from my house. The Italia was also entered and got some camera time, including a shot of Wayne sitting on a hill next to it at the close. A nice light green 1953 Hornet also got some air time.

Hi, Walt here. I'm the guy that got that Italia back on the road. It died on her and everyone she called to checked it out told her to sell it as the motor was shot. She called me to see if I would check it out. After checking it out I tried to find a fuel pump around her area, but no luck. As I was visiting with my Hudson in my old home town, I had a spare pump in my car so I sold it to her and installed it in her garage. Boy was she mad at a lot of people trying to steal her car. If it still has the double action fuel pump it came from my 53 Hornet. Originally it had a single action fuel pump. She also has a 53 Hornet with low miles and still like new. She drives a 1972 AMC Hornet. Wayne, if you read this write up, ask Hazel about this story unless she already told you. Walt's Garage.
