Update on the 36 English Hudson

I was expecting that I would have painted the car by now, however, it just takes time. I included the photo of when I took it down to my local body shop. The work of building and fitting all the parts was complete and it was ready for final sand and paint. When we joined the fenders to the body the body grew on me. One fender/running board (the are all one section) was a half inch short to where it would meet the inner/outter rear fender? The one on the passenger side was just over an inch short (can you say: Cut, Weld, Fit and paint to match). We finished up the refit today, attached the rear fender combination, disassembled again (3rd time) and are starting the final sanding with the goal of paint by the end of next week. The fenders and runningboards will be painted seperate from the body of the car. Next update will be with some chrome in place......

    Hi Brownie:

Your '36 is going to be a winner!! It reminds me of a '36 Packard 120 4 door that I did a body off resto 19 years ago. It's nice when "stuff" in boxes start being fastened to the car. I will search for a similar '36 Packard pic and send it to you.

The Railton should be all together in another week or two so hoping our Iowa weather will permit some driving before winter sets in.

This will indeed be a handsome Hudson and a great addition to the growing list of 1936 Hudson products in the club. I am really looking forward to seeing it person, will it be at Spokane next summer?

Welcome to the world of custom bodies! Nothing fits, and if it does fit, it won't for long if you go over any rough roads. These bodies, like the Biddle & Smart custom bodies on earlier Hudsons, look marvelous, but unfortunately their sturdiness is nowhere up to the standard of Hudson's all-steel equivalent. I have rebuilt three B. & S cars, and four Hudson bodies. Have just worked on a Brough Superior Drop-head convertible, and it has similar construction to your car. Congratulations on your efforts. I hope you get many years of enjoyment out of this fine car.

I have a similar problem with a gap between the running board & the fender. I believe I will have to undo the bolts in the front fender support structure that attaches to the chassis. In my eargerness I bolted it up tight then fitted the fender. Im sure if I loosen it everything will line up. It seems strange looking at another 36 that has totaly different body lines. Regards, Barry

Thanks for the fine comments and yes I do plan to have it at the National in Spokane. I retired a few weeks ago and am having a great time in the shop. All is complete (famous last words) on the car and all I will need to do is the interior. As soon as I can get the paint on it, assemble some brightwork, I will start the stiching stuff.
