Gas tank sending unit question
Lee here. My computer crashed about a month ago and I finely got it back. I have some threads to catch up on. I've missed not being able to access the Hudson forum. Glade to be back.
I bought a new reproduction 1953 chevy gas tank to install in my 47 Hudson pickup. It accepts most aftermarket sending units. My question is: does anybody know what aftermarket sending unit will be compatable with the original 47 Hudson pu gas gage?
Any help is appreciated.

Pretty sure a Ford one works fine on late -40's Hudsons, I got a Ford/Universal 99A-9275 sender unit for $40 for my '36 and it works OK. You just bend and shorten the float wire to suit the tank depth and height.
The firm was Carpenters who Bill Allbright recommended and they were good to deal with.0 -
Thanks all for your suggestion. Rick I like that about "a Hudson with Chevy gas tank using a Ford gas sending unit". That would be unique. I believe the Ford sender might work. I checked the mounting screw holes and both Hudson and Chevy are the same. Chevy senders are available also. I don't know if the Chevy sender is compatable with Hudson gage.
However, this tank can be used either with or without a electric intank fuel pump. The electric pump mounts where the sender mounts and there is another hole (smaller) for aftermarket sender to mount. Also, the tank has a seperate fuel pickup for original carburated engine.
I was going to use the electric pump for backup with pressure regulator, or for fuel injected motor at later date when original engine gives up.
So, I'm back to the original question: Does anyone know what aftermarket sending unit will be compatable with the original 47 Hudson gas gage?
