Has anyone experienced engine oil leaks from a leak free engine after switching from ordinary motor oil to synthetic motor oil?

  • FWIW, my Amsoil dealer advised me not to use synthetic oil in my '37 T because the gaskets will leak.

I started my car with Castrol 10-40 and at the 80,000 mile mark, I switched to Castrol 10-40 SYNTEC-BLEND and now show 128,000 miles and still no leaks. Lee, I wished you ask me that question at Laughlin for then you could of checked my car where it sat for 2 days and not a spot on the ground. Walt.

Sorry Walt. I didn't think to ask you about it at Laughlin. Good to hear your experience with synthetic oil was positive. The reason I was asking about oil leak was because 2 out of 3 of my cars did start leaking after switching to synthetic oil. I was wondering if this was a coencident or if it was common to synthetic oil. So I was looking for feedback from anyone who had switched.

  • The synth blends are around 75% conventional oil and 25% synth oil. That mix would be less likely to cause leaks than pure synthetic.

My brand x that I use synthetic in doesn't leak, but it specifies that I use pure synthetic oil - so it was designed for it.

Go to SYNTEC-BLEND and you should be OK. Retighten all gaskets to Hudson specs and you should be OK. Most people just tighten all bolts as hard as they can pull and this just makes the gaskets pop out, oil leaks. Walt.
