Stepdown tread width

OK you guys. Lets see how knowledgable you are on Hudson Engineering? We all know that Hudson front tread is wider than the rear tread. Other than looking funny going down the road from the back. What is one of the greatest benefits of this. Some of you older guys will pick up on it real quick.

    The purpose of the wider front track is to stabilize the car. The roads of the stepdown era and before were high crowned in the center the edges of the road were more than likely bar ditches. With a wider front tire track the car was able to safely traverse these roads. State troopers hailed the Stepdown as a car that could travel the roads at high rates of speed with little concern for roll overs.

    Ken's on the money, besides the wide track front was more stable in the corners.

    RIGHT. You guys are OK.I can remember years ago at one of DOC'S meets that he took a fellow who was skeptical about Hudson handling for a ride and showed him that very same feature, scared the daylight out of the guy, but he was very impressed to say the least

    Point of fact - if you accidentally run a step-down off the pavement and onto a shoulder, don't try to steer it back onto the pavement. It will come back up on it's own.
