NOW there's a find for you - there were only something like 67 commercial vehicles produced in 1942 so that truck would be well worth restoring, if possible.

The seller was on the right track. Must have run out of gas on the project. Very worthwhile saving at least the truck, if not both.0

If only I had the room....I've got a soft spot for the 42's.0

There are only 7, 42 pickups registered in the club and one of them is a street rod.0

According to the commercial body list I've dug up (and is in my General Info Handbook) commercial bodies in 1942 were offered as:
Pickup (Model 20C - 116" wb)
Pickup (Model 28 - 128")
Utility Coach (Model 20C - 116" wb)
Utility Coupe (Model 20C - 116" wb)
Station wagon (Model 21 - 121" wb)
With only 67 being built I'd almost go out on that shaky limb and say, maybe only half or so produced being pickups. I'd almost imagine that station wagons would constitute around 10 or so of the commercial line produced, given the fact that there was a lot of handwork done on those.

What is the "utility coach/coupe"? The pull-out bed thing?0
