Clutch/Gear Slipping ???
Not sure what I need to do now......
New clutch plate and freshened gear box with OD reinstalled. OD wire harness is NOT attached as I have a broken connector on the govenor (will address this over the winter).
Got everything reattached, clutch pedal adjusted etc...started car, ran through gears while up on solid jack stands to make sure things are working.
Lowered car to ground, drove out to end of driveway, backed it up..repeated a few times.
Turned of car, put in 1st and engaged clutch. Car start to rol down driveway. Tried 2nd, 3rd and Reverse. Same problem - rolls down hill.
What am I missing with the reinstall that would cause this? Maybe OD is set to "free wheel".

A block of wood behind the tire?
Are all of the spark plugs in the engine?
New Muffler Bearings?
Sounds to me like the OD is engaged, but then I'm no expert like Russell. LOL

U got it....What am I missing with the reinstall that would cause this? Maybe OD is set to "free wheel". Need to take the trans out of manual overdrive.
Then the trans will lockup as a 3 speed.0 -
This indicates it's free wheeling and needs to be taken out of overdrive.
The OD knob should be pulled all the way out for this to happen.
When it's pulled out all the way, get under the car and look at where the control cable exits the cable casing (or housing), at the place where the cable is connected to the control lever on the side of the OD. Is there still some "play" there? That is, is there a bit (maybe 1/4") of cable showing before it disappears into the casing? If not, then maybe the lever "bottoms out" on the end of the cable casing before it's moved to its forward limit. In that case, unclamp the casing from the OD, slide the casing forward a bit so that more of the cable is exposed, then re-clamp the casing.
Likewise, when the dash knob is pushed all the way in, there should still be at least 1/8" play between the bottom of the knob and the dashboard bracket. If it "bottoms out" on the bracket (with no play), then you have no way of knowing whether it has moved its full length, or not. And, the lever on the side of the OD may not have moved all the way, ergo, you are never going to go into overdrive.
To sum up: if the control lever on the side of the OD does not travel to its full limits, then your car may not go into / out of overdrive.0 -
Thanks guys!!!!!!!
I thought the manual mode still had to be coupled with the locking pawl to actually work.
Great to learn something new.0 -
You can leave the OD dash knob in, but always park the car in REVERSE. It won't roll away then. The Reverse gear position locks your OD out just like the knob.
My first OD parking experiance with the Super Wasp left me chasing it down a slight grade - Thank God I was on the edge of a long pasture. chasing a Hudson down is good incentive to learn how to keep it from rolling away, I initially thought my OD was malfunctioning. I think some of the good folks here set me straight - so I'm passing it along.
