The power brake booster is in the way of the standard oil bath sump on the rear ... on the front carb , the power steering pump has no clearance... they must be either shorter or at an angle.... I had no idea about it as i never tried to put them on before.... When i tried, i found the clearance issues... THen checked in the parts book and saw that they are a different part number for power steering and brakes... would luv to see what they look like myself...

I am sorry to hear that they don't fit, and unfortunately I have no idea where you would find what you are looking for. I am left wondering if you are interested in selling the pair that you have. I like the look of the Oil Bath Air Filters on a Twin-H. This is what I currently have. I am making the assumption that the Oil Bath Air cleaners you are are the same as the 52s.

Good luck, and not just for my sake
  • Harry... Jim Guinn sold a set of those cleaners on ebay several months ago. He asked me why one was shorter than the other as he had obtained them with a single car. The key is the rear oilbath is shorter overall in lenght to account for the space the power brake vacume chamber takes up in the engine bay.

The following pictures tell the story. #1 is a 54 with oilbath and NO PWR Steering ... both units are the same length. :) #2 is of a Twin H dry set designed for a car with power brakes:). #3 is of a set of oilbath filters for a twin H installation on a pwr brake equipped car.:)

So, it's actually the rear canister that is shorter on the rear air filter.

    Harry54-

Are your current air cleaners all ready painted and pretty? If not, these air filters can gently be taken apart, and opened up. Your current canister for the rear, which I am assuming is too long, can then be cut down and air filter re-assembled.

I bought a set from Jim on Ebay that were supposed to be for Wasp with power brakes. Instead of one of the canisters being shorter than normal, it was longer (the tube between the oil bath portion and the main body was longer). I wasn't 100% convinced that the longer one would fit at all, so it is sitting on a shelf. I have since given up on adding power brakes.......
