second offer ebay fraud attempt, Super 6 radiator mascot
I was one of the unsuccessful bidders on the 28/29 Super 6 radiator mascot auctioned on ebay recently.

I have just been emailed a clearly fraudulent second chance offer to buy this item, but the interesting thing is that the offer is also there in my ebay messages.
How has the the would be fraudster been able to send me a message via ebay?
All I can think of is that he/she has managed to hack into the ebay account of the mascot's seller pikespeak01.
Any other thoughts?

Had the same thing happen to me on a car I bid on. I filed a complaint with E-bay with no response.
If you look closely at the contact info, it maybe different and definately, look at how they want you to pay.0 -
Yes, definitely fraudulent, 2 things give it away.
The mascot sold for $655, the second offer to me is for my bid of $75.
The original auctioned specified PayPal for payment, the second offer wants funds to be wired.
Here is part of the email.

Call Mike at Pikes Peak Motors and let him know that his Ebay account has been breached. I have dealt with them before, and they are really great guys. They had a 52 hornet coupe parts car that I stripped clean for very little money.

I did a search on Zions Bank and there is one in Colorado Springs. If this guy isn't affiliated with the seller, He may be someone who has access to his information. I'm surprised a scammer would use a bank account instead of request a certified check or money order.0

Hi Bob,
If you are after 1 of these why don't you get Geoff Clark to make you 1
I know its not original, but you could look at it a different way and call it New old stock, and they are very good and are no where the cost
Just a thought

eBay has a fraud department and a special email address.
I have been sent invoices - the highest being for $24,000 for a motor home I never even heard of - that looked very authentic but when I looked at the html code, the originator was in N Korea or Russia (I forget which). Somehow they find your email through a publicly available list on eBay, and they can then relate your screen name to that email address and look up auctions on which you have bid and lost. If you have a room full of computers you can learn a lot about someone, and apparently Russia, China, NK, and other unfriendly places have a cottage industry for phising scams.0 -
Since there was a bank number and a routing number listed it might be interesting to issue a withdrawl for say around $500 and see if it produces any results.. If you get some funds and are sure that this guy is running a scam that information can be very useful

Hi Bob, thanks a lot for the information you posted!!! I was just about to send this guy 2500 bucks in a wire transfer to his Zion Bank Account!! I do not know how he manage to use someone else ebay user account, but as soon as I sent him a question about the item and payment, all his items suddently disapeared from ebay! he argued that his paypay account was not able to receive that amount so I must transfer him directly and when I asked how am I protected, he just answered that he is a business man! be careful!
Thanks again!0 -
You'd think those scammer scumbags would be at least smart enough to ply their trade on some "other" brands, than Hudsons. I suspect there'd be so many Fords, or Chevy's around for sale that it'd be nearly impossible for anyone to take nearly the notice that we Hudson Guys do as to whats going on with our favorite brand.
I'd be surprised if there's many Hudson made cars, or parts or related paraphernalia out there that someone in this group dosn't know about, or know someone who will know what's up with regards to their coming available for sale, or instantly spot something "fishy" about the whole deal, or have a friend nearby that can "check it out". If there's one thing I've learned about Hudson folks -- they are an amazingly dilligent lot. Just look at the 100,000 or so posts on this board compared to the totals on the "others", and its easy to see what I'm on about here.
If these scumbags weren't slowly undermining the very fabric of our society with their attempts at fraud, they'd be laughable, but the sad fact is -- sooner or later venues like ebay are going to find their activity counts declining big time, -- because everybody will begin to lose trust in the integrity of the site, and start to do business straight up, instead of online.
Unfortunately, that includes me, as I'm already suspicious of every transaction on ebay, unless I know the seller is a "regular", and above reproach.

Edmundo, I'm guessing your proposed payment was for a different auction to the one that I bid in.
Was the vendor the same? Or has the fraudster, as best I can figure it out, managed to hack other ebay accounts?0
