I assume you're trying to get the oil pump in 'correctly.'
Take your distributor, set the rotor at about 1 o'clock (although it doesn't really matter where), notice where the offset tang is, and match the oil pump up with it (approximately). Rotate it a little to allow for the rotation caused by the helical gear, and insert the oil pump.
Now check it with the distributor and if it's too far off, remove the oil pump and move it a tooth or two until you're still at about 1 o'clock and bolt 'er down.
Actually, as long as you have the rotor pointed at #1 wire at TDC (top dead center on the compression stroke, (as determined by holding your finger over the spark plug hole until you have pressure) it doesn't matter where it points as long as you plug #1 in there and follow clockwise 1,5,3,6,2,4
I screwed up and got the pump 180 deg out so #1 on my Hornet is at 7 o'clock. By that time, I was ready to start it and wasn't about to change the pump. so just rewired it, and it runs great.
The engine can't see where you have it pointed. All it wants is fire at the right time.0 -
Followed Uncle Josh's instructions on this almost a year ago, and it all worked out. Once you got it to firing, then you can use the vacuum gage timing tip and you'll soon be driving the car!
