fuel pump parts
Could some one tell me if you can remove the pressed in check valves in the newer 53-56 ac combo fuel pumps, with out ruining them? What is the purpose for the air bulb on the fuel inlet of the pre 52s. Is it an attempt to solve vapor lock and did it work? Or can you remove it and plug the hole?

Ron, Yes you can remove the check valves but sometimes they get stuck and a re a real pain to remove. As to the air dome, they are removeable and can be plugged. I leave the ones I do on to keep it authentic. Using rubber fuel hose from fuel pump to carb is the better way to fight vapor lock. I will admit it may not be authentic but I'd rather be driving than sitting by the road with a vapor locked 'authentic' car.0
