starter problems

my wife just bought me a starter for my 308 she said[after she ordered it] that it was for a std. tranny i have a hydromatic what kind of problem am i facing?

    It won't fit sorry. The armature shaft is longer on the auto trans models.

    The auto-matic starter engages from the front of the flywheel, while the std engages from the rear. Just won't work. Walt.

    I probably have good automatic starter if you still need one.
