Sad day in the Pacific Northwest...
Saw on the news that an old auto parts biz that has been doing business for eons and had a LOT of old parts burnt up. The Hagens Auto Parts in Puyallup Washington caught fire in the early morning hours. I had recently bought parts for my 36T there, and have been buying parts on and off since 79 or 80.
Hope they can salvage and rebuild. And thankfully no one was hurt either!

I couldn't believe the news, either. I've suggested Hagens to several Jet owners. There's a lot of inventory that simply can't be replaced, but hopefully they can stick this out.0

:(Sorry to here about Hagen's. Hope they can recover. I once lived in Tacoma and spent a lot of time in Puyalup. Where is Hagen's located? There was a large wrecking yard back in the sixties on Meridian on top of the hill heading towards old hiway 99. They had lots of old stuff and many Hudsons. I do not know if they are still there or not as it has been nearly forty years since I travelled that road. Also, there was another "Junk" yard on the road going to orting, just a mile or so out of Puyalup. He had ton's of Hudson's and many old cars dating back to the twenties. The owner was a bit strange, but he did have a lot of stuff. There was an elderly gentleman who lived near the High School who had several Terraplanes including a panel. I am certain that he has long since passed away, so I wonder what ever happened to those cars. There were several Hudson's in the area at one time as there were about three Hudson dealers in the Tacoma-Puyalup area. Enough history. Have a Great Holiday season. Arnie in Nevada.0

Hey Arnie,
Yea, I hope they recover as well!
I do remember one of the junkyards you mentioned but I think they are all gone and replaced by strip malls and apartments.
Hagens is on river road between Tacoma and Puyallup, closer to the Puyallup side.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year yourself!

What always amused (??) me was the rational behind getting rid of junkyards - usually it was because they were dirty, unsightly, etc - even after being put behind 20 foot fences.
So, they were ordered closed down by the city fathers - and replace with condo's, strip malls, housing developments, etc.
Guess it all comes down to the developer. I think the 2nd guy off the Mayflower was a real estate developer - couldn't wait to cut down all those unsightly trees and build houses, malls, etc.
From my point of view I'd rather see the hidden junk yard - sure ain't no beauty in a strip mall.

Alex, Just another thought. As I look out my window, about 1/4 mile to the west, by the lake, was an auto salvage yard. Just after I moved in, the owner decided to bring in a crusher and sell off everything. He opened in 1949 and had over 5,000 cars, trucks and stuff. After he crushed, crunched, stacked and sold off all the salvagable items he sold the land to a local farmer that now has it in corn and winter wheat. The owner of the yard bought the home next to me and one in Las Vegas. He banked a sizable amount of money and he is now enjoying the winter down in Vegas. I am happy that he was able to retire in comfort, but I miss looking at the cars through my small stargazing scope....0

Ah yes, growing up I too spent lotsa time in an 'old car' wrecking yard. The Midway Auto Wrecking probably introduced me to my 'first' Hudson!:D
I bet I vroomed my way through thousands of miles sitting and climbing in and out of some of them rides! Dont even want to think about some of the rare iron seat springs that stuck me in the arse and what could have been....
Good memories....:)
