The movie Cars

I know most of you are sick of CARS the movie, but I just got done watching it on TV [Pixars weekend] and it still brings a tear of joy and pride to my old eyes. I use to race them. My first one was copper and I painted it Baron Metallic blue. it had all the look of DOC and I won trophies with that car, and many more, over 17 years of racing . I was 16 at the time of my first win and was hooked on Hudsons. I was at the Nationals and got a little side award for the best DOC look alike. It still makes me proud when I hear them acknowledge during, and at the end of the movie, the historic facts, and long standing records HUDSON held in NASCAR. Paul Newman was the voice of
"DOC"and in correspondence with him before he died, he said" Ah Hudsons! I knew them well, usually from the rear end in my early racing days. That is why, not only have I respected them all these years, I insisted on getting the details correct in all scripts of this movie". He did us a great service and I will never forget his contribution to our cause, and sincere love for our "cars".

Oh, yeah. I saw the rear end of a LOT of Hudson's back in the mid-50's when I was doing a bit of roundy-round!!!!
And I was running late 30's Dodge and Plymouth coupes with a 1953 Dodge 243 small block hemi at that!!! Most of the Hudsons were late 30's to late 40's - but a few were step-down coupes. Like a lot of cars back then - such as Buick, Caddy, Packard - the step-down Hudsons were just a little too big for the 1/4 and 1/3rd mile tracks we mostly ran on (wasn't playing with NASCAR - running on the old red clay tracks down here in the south in Sat and Sun afternoon shoot-outs). But the step-down Hudsons that did run on those short tracks still wiped most everybody out. Get behind one in the turns and you could see why - they didn't back off and they didn't roll over.
