Hi. This is Robert Blake. Can anyone help me identify an engine with serial #5325011? It is supposedly an original left over 308 complete with manifolds. Any leads appreciated. Try my email: rvb9549@aol.com RVB

Can't identify it with that serial number. Serial numbers ran contnuous after 1951. 1951 numbers ran from 101 to 132915, 1952 from 132916 to 202916, 1953 from 202917 to 269059 and 1954 from 29060 to 319720.

    1955 started at 101, 1956 Hornet 6's at 7201.

Hasn't showed up yet - did you send it to NEChudsontech09@yahoo.com (drop the NEC). Maybe the rain we're getting is slowing things down. ;)

I have two 308's and both have 7 digit SN's that start with 532----. I have treated them as 55 engines, one came in a 52 Hornet, the other was in a 55 that I am rebuilding for the 52 Hornet. Both have 1/2 inch vs 7/16 " head bolts, neoprene rear seals. Brent

As I recall, the "dealer replacement engines" came with no serial number. When the engine was installed in a car, that vehicle's number was to be stamped on the engine. A Dixie Chapter friend has a Hornet engine we pulled out of a '54 Hollywood ... the serial number is that of a

'53 Wasp. It turned out to be a '55 production "spare" engine that was intended for use in pre-'55 cars --- notable by the position of the dipstick hole ('54 and earlier engines have the dipstick pretty far to the rear. "Hash" car engines had the dipstick much closer to center, dictated by oil pan shape).
