'39 Country Club 8 Convertible Coupe. This is an extremely rare car that sort of got put on back burner as other projects got in the way over the past 25 years or so. It's now going back on front burner and I'll be in need of a few bits and pieces. Would be especially interested to see any photos of '39 Hudson Convertible interiors. This car was originally outfitted with red leather interior. The pattern of the leather is a mystery due to the fact that the seats were down to the bare springs. Seat frames, etc. still had shreds of the original red material. The car will be done back to as near original as humanly possible.     Nice project. does not look like you are that far from completing the car. I was at a swap meet last summer and found a complete set of country club gages and radio. They will go in my 39 "Custom Martz" roadster shown above. Good luck on the project--love to see some more photo's.....

    Wow! That is Awesome! There must be only 3 or so examples of this car left. Noticed the '38 Convertible in the garage along with a step-down convertible, too. The '39 is coming along great. Keep the pics coming and good luck with the rest of the restoration.
  • The old pictures were taken at least 25 or so years ago in Denver at John Soneff's place where I bought the car. As far as I can determine, this is the one and only '39 CC8 Cv.Cp. in existence. There is a 6 Cyl. Convertible Coupe in Sweden. The Cv.Cp. has no back seat and has a much more attractive top than the Convertible Broughams, in my opinion. The yellow '38 belongs to Jim Neuhardt.

    This brings back memorries of a 1939 Country Club Conv my late older brother owned at one stage, my mate and I borrowed the car one Saturday night for a cruise, my brother said"what ever you do don't put the hood down" being a couple of know alls, we drove around the corner and put the hood down, that was OK until we went to put it back up, after about three hours of swearing and carrying on , we finally got it back up again, we never did tell him what we did or he would have killed both of us. Wish I knew what ever happened to that car. Was a real buzz in those dyas driving around town in a conv.

    Did you see the pic of the 39Cv at this year's National? Not sure what model it is, but this has now piqued my interest. Have several pics of '39 conv's., mostly older photos. I'm sure you are probably right about the only CC8Cv in existence, but perhaps there's still another hiding out in someone's garage waiting to be discovered (at least I like to imagine that there is that possibility). Will try to post pic of the green one at this year's Nats.

    Thanks for the post and info, wish I could help with your parts search, but haven't started the foray into pre-stepdowns, as of yet.

    Here is a 39 convertible that is floating around right now.... I think that this is the one that was at the National. I also noticed that Park posted a photo just before me. Does not look much like my 39 "Martz?"

    Thats going to be 1 real nice ride when you get it finished and too be so few of them makes it all the sweeter, the dream of owning a convertable, maybe 1 day

    Yep, you guys sure talk funny over there, we have hoods and bonnets, and mudguards and boots and overriders and turrets and firewalls and crown wheel and pinion and utes etc etc, better brush up as you say.LOL.

    Thanks Park and Brownie for posting the pics. '39 is not my favorite year but I was fairly speechless every time around this car. If either of you have some more pics of the interior, I'm sure Arkiejazz could make use of them. Unfortunately, I only photographed the front of the car.

    My old Norton and BSA 500 singles both had a pillion seat on the rear mudguard, as I remember. And I had to occasionally use my Whitworth spanners on those bikes, too! Are there any of those old bikes still running around over there, by the way?

    Neat project!! Not many 39 converts left of any model. Mine is the one pictured at the 09 national. It's a model 92 convertible coup. It's not the same model as yours, but if I can be of any help, let me know. I know the club library has aquired a large collection of photos showing good detail of the interiors of several models of convertibles.     Yes plenty of old bikes still running around in Oz, my late father had a couple of 1924 Chater Lea bikes which he left to my young brother who is well into the old bikes here, he also has a couple of AJS. There are quite a few old bike clubs around Sydney.

It's shorter wheelbase and much lower trim level than the Country Club model, but I wanted to look at it to see if it was possible to set the seat back an inch and a half on account of the BCF (belly clearance factor).

    The BCF factor is a real problem in my Essex Coupe!!! No room to move the seat back but I'm looking at a shorter steering column.
